Coinciding with the revealing of the Lenovo Legion Go S at CES this year by Lenovo, Valve has announced that SteamOS will be available and released for third-party devices released from now on.
Valve explained in a webpage that the operating system was developed to provide an enhanced and smooth experience for gaming users, while retaining access to the power and flexibility of a PC.

In addition, it is worth mentioning that the operating system isn't available on other portable devices yet, however Valve says that work is underway to put the new system on the Lenovo Legion Go S, which will come with SteamOS pre-installed instead of Windows.
Valve also stated that it will release a beta version of SteamOS that will improve the experience on other portable devices, which users can download and test for themselves, while it will continue to add support and improve the experience with future releases and updates.
It's not yet clear what other devices will be run on SteamOS in the future, but it seems like it's only a matter of time before they're announced. There have also been some rumors that Valve is working on a Steam Machine reboot, a decade after they were first announced and released.
Can SteamOS become an alternative to Windows for handheld gaming devices?...
